CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — The right northbound lane of Rt. 288 has reopened near Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10) after pavement buckling caused by extreme heat closed all lanes Monday evening.

At one point all northbound lanes were closed during rush hour Monday. Traffic was getting by on the left shoulder with major delays.

Crews are still making emergency repairs that includes pouring new concrete. This is expected to require several hours to properly set.

The right lane has reopened following repairs. The left lane will remain closed through 6 a.m. Tuesday as part of an ongoing resurfacing project.

The backup is now 2 miles. Expect residual delays.
