RICHMOND, Va. -- This week I worked with River City Adventures in Richmond and trained to be a whitewater rafting guide. I quickly learned there was a lot more to it than just jumping in a raft.
When I arrived, they quickly put me to work because we had a group coming in for a trip. We quickly prepared and packed the raft.
We put snacks, water, and a first aid kit into a dry bag and then blew up the raft.
When the group arrived, I explained the waiver and asked if anyone had a peanut allergy (because we packed snacks for the trip).
We then got them fitted in a personal flotation device and helmet.
Finally we loaded up the van and headed to the James River!
As the raft guide, I sat in the back of the raft and yelled commands like, "left... right... rest."
You learn to read the water and rapids to prepare your team.
I had the best time! I can not wait to go back!
