HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A man is in police custody and an officer suffered a minor injury after a short police chase and crash on Staples Mill Rd. in Henrico County.

Police said they received a call around 6:30 p.m., from someone who reported that an individual who was wanted for a violation of protective order was in the parking lot of a business near 9000 Staples Mill Rd.

When officers arrived on the scene they located the suspect, Robert Vandine, 47, who matched a detailed description.

As officers approached Vandine, he entered his vehicle and fled the parking lot driving a Chevrolet SUV. Police said the suspect disregarded police attempts to stop and the chase ensued.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed on Staples Mill Road between Attems Way and Warren Road.

Police said Vandine refused to obey police commands and was removed from the driver’s seat. He was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant.

An officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest, but it was unrelated to the pursuit or crash. There were no other injuries or crashes involving the chase.

The incident is currently being investigated, and charges related to the pursuit are pending the investigation.
