"Officers were called by the Richmond Ambulance Authority to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a call of a child who was unconscious but breathing," Richmond Police spokesperson James Mercante said. "The child, Latrice Walden, 3, of the 5800 block of Orcutt Lane, died from her injuries after being transported to a local hospital."

Police were called to the home at about 4:38 a.m. Monday.

Turner was a friend of child's family, police said.
