Police responded to a shooting at the Essex Village Apartments in Henrico Friday morning after neighbors along the 100 block of Engleside Drive heard gunshots around 6:45 a.m.

"I heard about five or six loud shots. I thought it was a shotgun," one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said. "When I looked out the window, I saw a man crawling from the building across from me."

It appeared the man was carrying a gun, the neighbor added.

The man, who sources said was Phillips, was taken to the hospital. Another person was detained for questioning at the apartment complex, Jones added.

The Essex Village Apartments are located off East Laburnum Avenue, near Richmond International Raceway.
