RICHMOND, Va. — Cat Buchanan, better known to music fans as Rosie Soul, has breast cancer. The lead singer and face of Richmond-based Rosie Soul and the Rock N Roll Cowboys made the announcement in a YouTube video. Buchanan received the diagnosis a few weeks ago, fiancé and band leader Jaime Lloyd said. He said Rosie made the announcement of her illness to encourage women to get their mammograms done.
Buchanan and Lloyd also announced that this summer would be the last for the band. The decision to end the band’s five-year run was not connected to Buchanan’s cancer diagnosis, they said.
“I’m extremely satisfied. That’s why we decided not to play anymore. We’re so happy with our personal lives,” Lloyd said. “We’ve been very fortunate to be well received. We’ve played all over the East Coast.”
Rosie Soul and the Rock N Roll Cowboys was named “Richmond’s Best Rock Band” by the readers of Style Weekly for the past three years. In 2015, the band asked readers to vote for someone else.
The band’slast performance is July 11 at Harley-Davidson in Ashland. The band is hosting a music video release party Wednesday night at Sharky’s Bar and Billiards in Innsbrook. The band asked fans to leave messages of support for Cat Buchanan on Facebook.
