RICHMOND, Va. -- A man was taken into custody and sent to the hospital for a mental evaluation after he walked up to United Nations International Church, banged on the door and started to scream racial slurs, according to Richmond Police Captain Chris Gleason. A police officer, working security at the Midlothian Turnpike church, initially detained the man.
While initial reports indicated the man was carrying a knife, police said it turned out he did not have a weapon.
No charges have been filed against the man, police said. Officers will meet with the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney today to determine if any laws were broken.
