RICHMOND, Va. -- A man was taken into custody and sent to the hospital for a mental evaluation after he walked up to United Nations International Church, banged on the door and started to scream racial slurs, according to Richmond Police Captain Chris Gleason. A police officer, working security at the Midlothian Turnpike church, initially detained the man.

While initial reports indicated the man was carrying a knife, police said it turned out he did not have a weapon.

No charges have been filed against the man, police said. Officers will meet with the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney today to determine if any laws were broken.

United Nations International Church preaches to "all people in all nations, of every culture, of all ages, and economic situation’s," according to the church's website.
