GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. -- A Midlothian woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck as she tried to cross Interstate 64. The crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. Monday at the eastbound 173.6 mile marker (just before the Rockville exit) in Goochland County.

The trooper’s investigation revealed that a 2002 Mitsubishi operated by Brenda K. Mekhimar, 56, had become disabled on the right shoulder. Mekhimar and her husband crossed the travel lanes of I-64 to get help from a construction crew working nearby.

The man and a worker crossed back over to the disabled vehicle, but police said that when Mekhimar stepped out, she stepped into the path of an eastbound 2008 Ford pickup. The driver of the pickup was unable to avoid hitting Mekhimar, police said. The driver of the 2008 Ford was not injured in the crash.

Mekhimar died at the scene.

There are no charges made against the driver of the truck.

Virginia State Police Trooper J. Blue investigated the crash.
