CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- This mother's day weekend marks two years since a deadly hit and run claimed the life of a young Chesterfield County mom.
It was 1 a.m. two years ago, when Brenda West’s nightmare began. Her daughter Nikki, 19, would become a victim of a deadly Mother’s Day hit-and-run.
"I cry a lot…it's crazy,” West said. “I feel like my hearts is broken all over again."
West says Mother’s Day is far from a happy occasion.
"I pray to God every day that somebody will come forward or someone knows who did it and will turn them in," West said.
Her daughter Nikki was walking down Turner Road early Mother’s Day morning two years ago when she was hit and killed by a car -- the driver never stopped.
Lucas, Nikki's son, was seven-months-old at the time. Now pushing three, his grandmother says he's putting together that he's different from other kids
"He knows there's something missing because he sees other kids at daycare when their moms pick them up and he's like ‘why don't I have that,’" West explained.
The case of who killed Nikki West is cold. Her mom says police haven't given her an update in months.
Mother’s Day 2015 will be spent watching her grandson and hoping one day that her daughter’s killer will come forward.
"It's not going to change things for him,” West said. “He doesn't have a mom. It's just the right thing to do."
