STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — The search for missing Stafford County father Lance Buckley continued Thursday in Northern Virginia, Washington D.C. and Maryland. Buckley, 33, was last seen by his family at around 8 a.m. Tuesday when his mother dropped him off at the Staffordboro Commuter Lot off Route 610 in Stafford where he slugs, or gets a ride with a stranger, to school at Howard University some 40 miles away.
Police released new information Thursday that may provide a clue into the father of two’s whereabouts.
“Late yesterday afternoon, as the investigation continued, the phone that belonged to Lance Buckley was electronically located, very briefly, in the area of Blockhouse Point Conservation Park in Montgomery County, Maryland,” Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said. “The Montgomery County Police Department initiated a search in that area but Lance Buckley was not located. The investigation continues.”
The park is about 30 miles from Howard University. Buckley, who was completing his PhD in microbiology, may have a handgun with him, police said. But they added he was “absolutely no danger to anyone.”
Wednesday, Buckley’s wife made an emotional appeal for his return.
"Lance, I love you so much no matter what I just want you to come home," Amy Buckley said."I just want you home, baby. I love you. You’re the love of my life."
The Buckleys have two daughters, one of whom is less than two weeks old.
Deputies do not suspect the drivers who drove Buckley to D.C. were involved in his disappearance since records showed an ATM withdrawal and a text message from Howard’s campus. Buckley is described as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing 150 pounds. He has brown hair and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark colored t-shirt and gray Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers.
Anyone who has seen Lance Buckley or knows his whereabouts was asked to contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400 or Crime Solvers at 540-659-2020.
