SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Dixie the dog was returned to her owners Tuesday afternoon after members of the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management rescued her from Hunting Run Dam. Dixie, firefighters said, was walking along the top edge of the dam when she slid down and could not move.
“Rope rescue equipment was used to lower firefighters to the animal, which was about 75 feet above the ground,” Deputy Fire Chief Joe Sposa said. “It took about an hour to get the stuck dog off the dam. The dog was reunited with its owners happy and unhurt.”
Sheriff deputies helped firefighters complete the rescue.
