CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. -- Four people now face 104 felony charges after what deputies called a "routine traffic stop" in Caroline County. It happened March 29 when a deputy clocked a vehicle traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The deputy swept the car for drugs. While no drugs were found, the deputy did notice something suspicious -- numerous IDs and credit cards in the console.
"During the search of the vehicle multiple Florida identification cards and credit cards were found, none belonging to the vehicle occupants," the Caroline Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "Upon contacting the appropriate agencies it was discovered that those identification cards were stolen in Jacksonville FL on March 28."
The four people in the car were each charged with 26 felony warrants related to the stolen cards. Tara Stevens, 55, of Daytona Beach, Florida, Charisma Borgmann, 19, of Palm Coast, Florida, Brittany Wilson, 24, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Justin Walker, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida were taken to Pamunkey Regional Jail where they are being held without bond.
"The recovery of the stolen credit cards and ID’s will help assist our out of state partners in solving and preventing identity theft," Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said. "I am very proud of our personnel for their diligent and continued hard work."
