HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — A driver was taken to the hospital after a police pursuit on Interstate 95 in Henrico and Hanover Friday morning. The pursuit came to an end along the side of Interstate 95 near the Atlee/Elmont exit in Hanover County at about 11:15 a.m.
“Henrico Police attempted to stop a four-door Ford vehicle after it nearly struck a marked police vehicle and disregarded two traffic lights,” Henrico Police spokesman Lt. Chris Eley said. “The vehicle did not obey the officer’s emergency equipment and fled.”
It was then, police started to pursue the driver north on Interstate 95.
“As the pursuit approached Hanover County, it was yielded to Virginia State Police. The driver of the pursued vehicle intentionally struck two Virginia State Police vehicles just south of the Atlee/Elmont exit on Interstate 95,” Eley said. “The pursued vehicle then became disabled and the driver was taken into custody.”
Eley said the car involved in the pursuit was the same car involved in an earlier incident in Henrico’s West End.
“Henrico Police responded to the 9600 block of Rainbrook Drive [near Gaskins Road] for a mental health call for service,” Eley said. “On arrival, officers were advised that the suspect had assaulted an adult female in the residence then fled in a vehicle. While leaving the incident, the vehicle operated by the suspect struck an unoccupied vehicle at the incident location.”
This is a developing story.
