HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A suspect fleeing from police on Friday night ends up needing help from the officers who were pursuing him. According to Henrico Police, during a routine traffic stop at Kenway Avenue and Nine Mile Road around 8:30 p.m., a passenger jumped out of a rear door of the car.

Officers engaged in a foot pursuit as the passenger jumped a seven-foot fence into an area overgrown with brush, injuring himself on other side.  A rescue crew then worked on getting the man to safety. The rescue of the suspect took a little under an hour. A chainsaw was used to get the suspect free.

The suspect complained of a leg injury at the scene, but there is no word on his condition. Police have not filed any charges yet.

As for car that was stopped -- the driver sped off down Nine Mile Road towards Highland Springs. The car was then involved in a hit-and-run at the intersection of Yates Lane and Nine Mile Road. The driver abandoned the vehicle--a Honda Accord--and fled the scene.

As of late Friday evening, police are still looking for the driver.
