HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — It’s been a long time, but the day has finally arrived. Gas prices in Central Virginia have dipped below $2 a gallon.
Sam’s Club, at The Shops at White Oak Village in eastern Henrico, is selling regular unleaded gasoline for $1.97 a gallon. According to gas tracker, the Costco in Midlothian is selling gas for $1.99 a gallon. Those lower gas prices are only available to Sam’s Club and Costco members.
On the flip side, the Shell on Brook Road in Glen Allen is listed as selling gas for $2.69 a gallon.
Gas prices in the Commonwealth have dropped about 20 cents per month on average, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. Local gas prices are at the lowest levels in four years.
“Lower gas prices are padding the pockets of motorists as we head into the holiday season,” Tammy Arnette, Public Affairs Specialist for AAA Mid-Atlantic, said in a statement. “Motorists are saving on average $15-$35 per fill-up compared to the spring peak experienced in April.”
AAA Mid-Atlantic credited the drop in gas prices to decreased demand and falling crude oil prices.
