Kuba Kuba to open second location in Henrico’s West End

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. — A pair of longtime Fan restaurateurs has cooked up a deal in the West End.

Johnny Giavos and Manny Mendez have purchased Flinn’s Restaurant at 403 N. Ridge Road in the Tuckahoe Shopping Center from owner Tammy Flinn. They plan to convert the space into the second location of Kuba Kuba, a Park Avenue Cuban and Caribbean restaurant Mendez and Giavos opened about 16 years ago.

Flinn opened Flinn’s in 2010 in the 2,800-square-foot space, and she said it will remain open until Dec. 20. Flinn would not say how much the business and its furnishings sold for. Giavos and Mendez did not buy the Flinn’s property but will take over the lease on the space.

“I just basically wanted a change,” Flinn said.

The deal, which closed earlier this month, adds to the list of restaurant holdings that Giavos and Mendez have compiled over the years. Giavos owns Sidewalk Café, Kitchen 64, Stella’s and Continental Westhampton. Mendez also owns C&N Galley in Forest Hill.

“You can’t stay the same,” Mendez said. “You have to grow a little bit year by year.”

They’ll look to open the new Kuba Kuba in March.

The purchase of Flinn’s was first reported by Style Weekly.
