CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The driver of a car that crashed into a tree at about 11:45 Thursday night along the 17300 block of Branders Bridge Road in Chesterfield has been charged with a variety of crimes. Ronald E. White Jr., 24, of  Colonial Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving while revoked and possession of marijuana, Chesterfield Police said.

White and one passenger were injured in the crash. A second passenger, who police identified as Randall S. Faucette, 25, of Decatur Street in Richmond, was pronounced dead on the scene. Faucette was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

"A 2001 Acura was traveling south on Branders Bridge Road when it left the road striking a tree," Chesterfield Police Lt. Don Story said via email.

Branders Bridge Road was closed for several hours as the crash team and forensics documented the scene. The road reopened early Friday morning.

The cause of the crash remained under police investigation.
