HENRICO COUNTY, Va. - Police are looking for the person who fired shots in the direction of officers during a seemingly unrelated traffic stop early Wednesday morning in Henrico County.

When officers attempted to pull over a car near Mechanicsville Turnpike and Watts Lane at about 2:12 a.m., the driver would not stop. Police followed the car until the driver crashed into a tree in the parking lot of Glen Lea Centre near Mechanicsville Turnpike and Laburnum Avenue.

The driver identified as Jae'Qwan Buck, 21, tried to get out of the car and run, but police were able to catch him. Buck was wanted on outstanding warrants, Henrico Police Lt. Scott Berger said.

"We just saw like two or three cop cars running down the street like Sonic," eyewitness Roy Bates said. "We were wondering what was going on."

While police were dealing with that situation, someone in another car drove by and fired shots in the direction of officers, police said. The shots were close enough that officers on scene could see the gun going off.

"It can be crazy out here," Marlon Pollard--who lives in the area--said. "I don't even understand why people would do that."

Police were not yet able to release a description of the car.

No one was hurt, but police were not able to find the person who fired shots.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
