RICHMOND, Va. -- David Hudson is the principal of Richmond's Franklin Military Academy. He's a pillar of his community and is committed to community service to help ensure all children have access to the tools they need to succeed. Hudson shared a few words with us on Monday Motivation on the importance of accepting new challenges and keeping your word so you can succeed in your life.

HELLO, I'M DAVID HUDSON. I LEAD BY THE FOLLOWING RULES:

YOUR ACTIONS CAN CHANGE YOUR FUTURE.

I TELL MY STAFF AND STUDENTS WHEN THEY ARE CONFRONTED WITH A SITUATION, PROBLEM, AND WHEN SOMETHING MAKES THEM ANGRY, REMEMBER IF YOU RESPOND THE WRONG WAY YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FUTURE.

BE POSITIVE IN WHAT YOU DO AND SAY.

BEING POSITIVE IS CONTAGIOUS: BEING POLITE AND POSITIVE SPREADS WHEN YOU DO IT OFTEN AND MEAN IT WHEN YOU DO IT.

BEING HONEST IS IMPORTANT.

I USE A PHRASE ALL THE TIME WITH HUMOR WITH MY STAFF - "HAVE I LIED YET?"

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOUR WORD AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY.

ALSO NEVER SAYING NO: I BELIEVE WHEN YOU TELL SOMEONE NO WHEN THEY ARE OFFERING ASSISTANCE IT IS A FORM OF LAZINESS AS AN
ADMINISTRATOR.

I ONLY USED THE WORD NO IF A PERSON DOES NOT FOLLOW THROUGH WHEN THEY ASK TO DO A TASK.

AS A LEADER, I BELIEVE YOU TREAT PEOPLE DIFFERENTLY, BUT FAIR.

YOU TREAT A PERSON DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE EVERYONE'S PERSONALITY IS DIFFERENT.

LASTLY, I THINK COMMUNICATION IS IMPORTANT.

WHEN A PERSON KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON AND THINGS ARE TRANSPARENT, IT MAKES FOR A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT.
