RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are investigating after a woman was shot to death in Richmond's East End Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the 3400 block of Blakey Street just before 6:50 a.m., according to Richmond Police.

When police arrived, officers discovered a woman "down inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," officials said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"Major Crimes detectives are attempting to gather additional information that may assist with this investigation," a Richmond Police spokesperson said.
