RICHMOND, Va. -- The man driving an SUV wanted in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday was killed following another crash in Richmond's Mosby Court public housing neighborhood, according to Richmond Police.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for a report of a single-vehicle crash just after 4:10 p.m.

"Once on scene, they located a Dodge Durango which had left the roadway and crashed into a tree," police said.

The driver, who was the the only person in the vehicle and was later identified as Vollie J. Fountain Sr., was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Detectives have determined the same vehicle was also involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 1500 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike, shortly before the fatal crash," officials said.

The hit-and-run investigation is also ongoing, police said.
