HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Family, friends and the community honored a World War II veteran celebrating a milestone birthday in Ashland.

Mr. Nelson Eddleton turned 98 years old Saturday, so his family threw a drive-by parade in his honor because of social distancing precautions due to COVID-19.

"You are loved!!!" the marquee of the iconic Ashland Theatre proclaimed to all who passed along England Street.

Family members said the Montpelier naive who now lives in Ashland served with the 6th Infantry Division in the U.S. Army from December of 1942 through December of 1945.

"He loves Jesus, his family and his country," Stephanie Reed, Eddleton's granddaughter, said.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Eddleton, and thank you for your service!
