NORFOLK, Va. -- Multiple crashes inside the Downtown Tunnel in Norfolk have closed lanes to traffic. The Tuesday morning crashes happened at the entrance to the westbound tube, according to Virginia State Police.
“The first crash involves a tractor-trailer and two SUVs,” a Virginia State Police spokesperson said. “The tractor-trailer is currently wedged inside the tube. The driver and two children passengers of a gold SUV were transported with non-life threatening injuries.”
The second crash, which involved two SUVs, happened when drivers had to brake hard to avoid the first crash. There were no injuries reported in the second crash, according to police.
“The westbound tube will remain closed for a currently undetermined amount of time,” the police spokesperson said.
This is a developing story.
