HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A substitute teacher walking with her children in Henrico County off of Capehart Road on Wednesday made a disturbing discovery when they discovered a man's body.

Investigators said that the body was found near Upham Brook, a tiny stream about four feet wide and a foot deep that runs behind Capehart Road and Emerywood Parkway in Henrico County.

"I'm glad I was there and they weren't there alone because they've gone by themselves and today we came across someone who died,” said Suzanne McNiven who is a substitute teacher in Henrico.

Crime Insider sources say that the body was of a man believed to be in his 30s.

Sources confirm the man had a gun in his possession and they believe a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head is the cause of death.

His remains will be taken to the medical examiner's office in Richmond.

For Henrico detectives, the death investigation is ongoing.

"Be aware of your surroundings because you may come across someone who made a choice that didn't turn out so well," said McNiven.
