PETERSBURG, Va. -- A Richmond woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 85 in Petersburg Wednesday afternoon.

Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 near Squirrel Level Road at 3:50 p.m.

"The preliminary investigation reveals a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north on Interstate 85 in the right lane when it ran off the road to the right," said a state police spokesperson. "The driver then went left, back into traffic lanes and overturned approximately three times. The vehicle came to rest against the jersey wall on the left shoulder."

The driver, identified as a male, was wearing his seat belt and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, identified as 27-year-old Jessica Davis, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police say Davis was not wearing her seat belt.

State police say their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
