Richmond Public Utilities to suspend water disconnections to ensure proper hygiene

The Richmond Department of Public Utilities is suspending all disconnections of water and wastewater service for non-payment to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond Department of Public Utilities is suspending all disconnections of water and wastewater service for non-payment to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

In suspending water disconnections, the city hopes to ensure that all members of the Richmond community are able to contiue and practice good hygience by washing their hands frequently.

"In the event the department is impacted, we have emergency operations plans in place to continue efficient utility service that will lessen any impacts to our customers while maintaining all public health and safety standards. To that end, while DPU will continue to respond to all emergency calls," a press release stated.
