Police identify man killed in Richmond double shooting

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have identified the man killed during a double shooting in South Richmond Wednesday as Kyre E. Smith.

Officers responded to the 2200 block of Halifax Avenue for a shooting shortly before noon. Crime Insider sources tell CBS 6 the shooting was a drive-by shooting.

Those sources say two men were shot near a playground area in the area.

Smith, a male in his 20s, was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The second man was also transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Sources say houses and cars were also hit during the shooting.

Crime Insider Jon Burkett reports shell casings littered the street and there were at least 37 evidence markers on Halifax street.
