Police: 14-year-old brings loaded gun to Virginia school for 'self-defense'

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. -- A 14-year-old has been arrested after bringing a loaded gun to his high school in Stafford County, according to Stafford County Police.

On Monday around 11:20 a.m., deputies discovered a loaded 40 caliber Taurus handgun inside a gym locker at Mountain View High School after the School Resource Officer learned that the 14- year-old student had a gun in the school.

The suspect was quickly detained and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

He is being charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

No one was threatened or hurt.

Police say that the incident followed an encounter on Friday, March 6 during which the suspects said they were assaulted by three other teenagers while walking home. During the assault, one of the teens displayed an airsoft gun. Police say that the suspect took his parent’s handgun to school on Monday morning for self-protection.
