PETERSBURG, Va. -- Authorities said a recent joint initiative between Petersburg Police, state and federal law enforcement resulted in 20 arrests along with the recovery of more the a dozen guns and a cache of illegal drugs.
Petersburg Police officials said the ongoing Operation Safe Streets initiative aims to keep the city "safe and reduce the fear of crime" by "removing illegally possessed weapons and wanted individuals from the streets."
"Twenty arrests were made, 13 firearms were removed from the streets [as well as] illegal narcotics, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin," police said.
Additionally, officials said money was recovered.
"Our efforts will be ongoing daily as we are committed to providing a safer community...," Petersburg Police Chief Travis Christian said.
