HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A man died after being hit by a driver Wednesday night on Nine Mile Road in Henrico County's East End, according to authorities.
Dispatchers received a 911 call about a suspicious situation involving a man walking in the middle of Nine Mile Road near Masonic Lane around 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 25, officials with Henrico Police said.
While officers were en route, the caller reported the man had been hit by a vehicle, police said.
Henrico officers arrived at the scene at 9:21 p.m., between Dabbs House Road and Masonic Lane, where they found a man with obvious signs of trauma lying in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash Team investigators have identified the man as 43-year-old Torianno Lakeith Callahan, of Henrico.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Callahan was walking in the road when he was struck by a pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Henrico Police said drugs, alcohol, and speed are not believed to be factors for the driver; however, investigators suspect Callahan may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Henrico’s crash team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
