CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A number of people in Chesterfield would head inside gyms for a workout, only to come out and find their cars had taken a beating. It's happened to close to a dozen gym goers off Hull Street Road and five more people who parked at Rockwood Park on Saturday.

"I was driving up and saw what looked like broken, shattered car glass,” a park goer, who asked not to be identified, said. “I was wondering what was going on. I figured someone locked their keys in the car."

The thieves are smashing windows, snatching wallets and purses, and going on a spending spree before victims can even report their cars had been broken into, according to police.

Investigators believe it fits the motive of the Felony Lane Gang - criminals from out of state pulling off quick hits, then leaving town, Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett.

"I don't leave my wallet or electronics,” said the park visitor. “I have a lot of tools in my trunk, but that's a heavy load for a heist. I don't leave anything inside that's of great value."

Two YMCA's, the YouFit, and Rockwood Park were hit, with 15 victims in total.

Police are warning the community to be on the lookout.

"It’s very concerning,” the visitor said. “It's broad daylight. I come here to walk the trails and get exercise. I should feel safe here."

It's more than just locking your doors, according to police. If you leave valuables in plain sight, you are opening yourself up to be a thief's next victim.
