Man arrested in connection to Petersburg shooting

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting last month in Petersburg.

On Sepetember 8, police were called to the 200 block of Elm Street for a person shot at 3:39 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. She was transported to the hospital with a non life threatening injury.

The suspect, 27-year-old Ryshwan Newsome, was recently arrested with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Newsome was taken into custody without incident.

He is being held without bond for reckless handling of a firearrn, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
