JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. -- A man is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman last week in James City County.

Police said the sisters were sleeping in the same bed when they woke up to find the suspect in their bedroom around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 at the Governors Square Apartments off Ironbound Road.

“A young lady, 14 years old, felt a hand on her buttocks area,” James City County Police Spokesperson Stephanie Williams said. “She smacked the hand away and just assumed it was her sister… The 18-year-old then felt a hand on her leg.”

Officials said that when the older sister used the light on her phone, she spotted the suspect.

“He grabbed a blanket, a little pushing and shoving went on," Williams said. "She screamed and he ended up running out of the residence with the blanket trying to shield his face.”

Two days later, 24-year-old Jaime Ortiz was apprehended and charged with assault and battery, sexual assault and breaking and entering.

Friends of the suspect were stunned by the allegations and described him as a hardworking, good person.

Police said the older sister told officers the suspect “had made advances” in the past.

Ortiz is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.

Jail officials said Ortiz, who is on an immigration hold, will be turned over to Homeland Security officials after he faces the new charges.
