HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A small fire in the attic of a Glen Allen church did not cancel Sunday services.

Firefighters were called to Hunton Baptist Church in the 1100 block of Greenwood Road just after 7:30 a.m.

"Henrico 911 Center received a call for a from a church member, stating they could smell smoke in the church," Henrico Fire Marshal Henry Rosenbaum said.

Crews arrived and parishioners were evacuated because of a "light haze" in the church.

Firefighters then discovered a small fire in the attic above one of the educational rooms.

Rosenbaum said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials said the church's 8:30 a.m. service and 9:45 a.m. Bible study were canceled. However, the 11 a.m. service was slated to go on as scheduled. Additionally, "childcare, educational services and evening activities" were canceled.
