HOPEWELL, Va. -- A Hopewell man has surrendered after barricading himself into a residence with two children.

Around 4 p.m., police responded to a home in the 1100 block of High Avenue in Hopewell for a domestic disturbance involving a woman and her ex-husband.

Police say that the woman fled the home with one child, but that her husband had barricaded himself inside the home with two other children. She also said that he had weapons inside the home and had made threats to harm himself.

Officers evacuated some of the surrounding homes, and, with the help of S.W.A.T. and negotiations teams, the man surrendered peacefully to authorities.
