HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico Police swarmed a West End neighborhood Tuesday morning in response to a breaking and entering and shots fired.
Henrico Police responded to a reported burglary in the 5500 block of Indigo Road, off Libbie Avenue between West Broad Street and Staples Mill Road.
"The victim stated he was at work when he received an alert from his home surveillance system and observed an unknown male entering the living room and went directly upstairs," said a Henrico Police spokesperson in a release.
Investigators say the homeowner confronted the suspect, who was seen running in the yard.
"Both individuals made eye contact and presented weapons," the spokesperson continued. "The suspect fled the area towards Libbie Avenue and W. Broad Street. The call prompted a large police presence as dispatchers received additional calls for shots fired in the area."
Police say a house was struck during the gunfire. No one was injured.
Officers and K9 units were on the ground and a police plane was above the crime scene assisting in the investigation.
Detectives say they are in the early stages of the investigation and are working closer with the homeowner.
As police continued their investigation, they asked the community to remain vigilant.
"Henrico Police always encourage residents to contact the police immediately, so first responders are one the way by calling 9-1-1," a police spokesperson said in a release. "Share clothing descriptions, the direction of travel, and anything else specific to an active crime. Remember to lock and secure windows and doors when you leave your residence. Together we can make a safer community."
