EMPORIA, Va. -- An Emporia man is among the top 5 finalist on BET’s “Sunday Best” gospel singing competition.

"This journey has been truly amazing, it really has," said MarQuis Harris.

For his Mom Sandra Seaborn , it's been a true blessing.

"It's amazing. The Gift that God has given him, it's amazing," said Seaborn.

Born and raised in Emporia, the 25-year-old started singing in church at age three.

"I raised him in Church," Seaborn said on his gospel roots.

Apostle Doretha Allen, of Berean Light Ministries, has watched MarQuis grow since he was a child.

"I knew all along that he was destined for something greater, we could hear it in his voice," said Allen.

Gospel music has long flowed through the veins of Harris.

"I love God with all of my heart and I serve the Lord and I want to do his work," said Harris.

Ten years ago, Harris began his love affair with BET’s gospel realty talent show.

"We're talking about gospel music and that's what I love to do. So, when you air a platform as such and that's something I love, of course I immediately cling to it," said Harris

In fact, he tried out for the show in 2014 and didn't make it.

"2020 comes, the determination is there, I said I'm gonna go forth with it and do this," added Allen.

Harris will have a chance to sing and compete in the top 5 Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT.

He says he feels like a winner either way.

"Honestly I am, I am OK with being in the Top 5. Why? Because I know I gave my best," said Harris.
