CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- All lanes have reopened and traffic has cleared following a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 95, near Route 288 (mile marker 62), in Chesterfield County due to a crash, according to VDOT.
Traffic was backed up four miles at about 8:15 a.m. The crash was reported at 5:55 a.m.
"A BMW traveling south on I-95 ran off the left side of the highway and struck the Jersey wall," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said. "A tractor-trailer traveling behind the BMW swerved to the left - to avoid the crashed BMW - and struck the Jersey wall. The tractor-trailer continued through the Jersey wall and struck a Chevrolet pickup traveling north on I-95."
The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Chippenham Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the BMW has been charged with reckless driving – failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
The crashes remain under investigation.
