Collision sends tractor-trailer into Virginia store, dump truck into home

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. -- One person was injured Wednesday morning after a collision between a tractor-trailer and dump truck damaged an Orange County store and home.

Virginia State Police said the crash occurred at 10:05 a.m. on Route 20 (Constitution Highway) at Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike).

“A 2013 Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling west on Rte. 231 when it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a northbound 1994 Freightliner dump truck,” said a state police spokesperson.

The impact caused the tractor trailer to run off the roadway and collide with a store. The dump truck ran off the roadway and collided with a house.

Two people in the store were uninjured and the house was unoccupied.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Gabriel J. Garcia, 29, of Womelsdorf, Pa., was uninjured in the crash.

The driver of the dump truck, Brent M. Spitzer, 54, of Gordonsville, Va., suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to UVA Medical Center.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
