Virginia woman arraigned on Capitol riot charges pleads not guilty

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. -- A Virginia woman was arrested by Capitol Police and charged after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 appeared in court Tuesday.

Cindy Fitchett was arraigned on four charges which were, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, or knowingly, with intent to impede government business or official functions, engaging in disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

She pleaded not guilty on all four charges.

Fitchett’s next court appearance is March 19 and she has retained counsel.

On Tuesday Fitchett was read a list of conditions, including:

  • Stay away from D.C.
  • Surrender passport
  • Notify court if she is traveling
  • Must verify her address
  • Agree not to have firearms or narcotics
  • Do not commit any other crimes

If Fitchett does not follow any of these conditions, a warrant can be issued for her arrest.

The court did not request that she be detained at this time.
