Chesterfield woman taken into emergency custody dies in hospital

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A Chesterfield County woman died at a Richmond hospital on Wednesday after being taken into emergency custody earlier in the day.

Around 12:30 p.m., Chesterfield County Police responded to the 20900 block of Truth Drive for a report of a woman standing outside yelling.

Officers determined the woman was experiencing a mental health crisis and, after consultation with Chesterfield County Mental Health, took her into emergency custody without incident.

The woman was transported by Chesterfield County Fire & EMS to Richmond Community Hospital.

While undergoing a health screening at the hospital, the woman's condition deteriorated rapidly. She died around 5 p.m.

Richmond Police are investigating the woman's death and Chesterfield County Police are assisting with their investigation
