FORT LEE, , Va. -- Authorities discovered a man's body in a swamp on Fort Lee Saturday as crews searched for a missing Petersburg man who disappeared last weekend.

"Police officers with the Fort Lee Provost Marshal’s Office located the remains of a deceased man in the Blackwater Swamp area on post this afternoon during a search conducted jointly with the Petersburg and Prince George County police departments," Fort Lee officials said.

Officials said they were conducting the joint search for 32-year-old Eli Cranston, who has been missing since April 25.

Cranston's mother, Hazel Graves, said her son got into his SUV and headed to work Saturday evening, but never arrived.

Cranston's wrecked SUV was found abandoned near Courthouse and Bull Hill roads in Prince George County around 4 a.m. Sunday.

"That's in route to him going to work," Graves told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil Thursday.

Family members discovered one of Cranston's flip-flops about a hundred yards from the crash site.

Authorities have not yet positively identified the body found on the base.

"Special agents with the Army Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Lee are investigating the death of the man," army officials said.
