HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Mike Chaney, founder of James River Exteriors, was given the Ray Tate Memorial Award on Tuesday to honor his dedication to helping Henrico County students.

The award is the highest honor within Henrico Schools' Career Technology Education Program.

Chaney has been heavily involved with the program, according to school officials.

He and works directly with the county to recruit, hire, and train students.

Chaney said he loved connecting with children to help offer them a brighter future.

"We have to look out for each other," he said. "If I can give someone a hand up or trajectory that maybe they can be successful raising their family, where's the downside to that?

Henrico's Career and Technical Education has more than 150 programs available to students beginning in middle school. The goal is to get every student ready for their future by the time they graduate.
