CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Emergency water restrictions have been lifted in Chesterfield County, officials announced Friday morning.
The county implemented emergency water restrictions on Sunday, August 16 in response to damage to facilities from the weekend’s severe flooding.
Major flooding caused a "temporary shutdown" at Chesterfield County's water treatment plant and prompted emergency repairs that have now been completed at Richmond’s Jahnke Road pump station, which supplies water to Chesterfield and parts of Powhatan County.
The county’s Addison-Evans Water Treatment Plant will remain offline.
Customers were asked to conserve water for essential use only, but county officials said the water was safe to drink.
“We appreciate our customers’ support in complying with emergency restrictions,” said George Hayes, Chesterfield County Utilities director. “We experienced a historic event in Chesterfield County this weekend. While the water remained safe and service was not interrupted, our customers ensured that there was less stress put on our system so that we could continue to provide safe, reliable service. While the decrease in usage had a positive impact on our system, we always encourage customers to use water wisely.”
