GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The annual Lebanese Food Festival has been canceled for 2020 out of safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Anthony Maronite Church canceled the festival on Monday in light of the continuing challenges related to the Coronavirus pandemic.

"The 2020 festival had initially been rescheduled to September from its traditional May weekend in the hope that conditions would improve sufficiently, but that does not appear to be likely," festival organizers said.

The festival is scheduled to return next year on its traditional weekend on May 14-16.

“We are deeply sorry to disappoint our many thousands of guests as well as our parishioners and the community,” said Chorbishop John D. Faris, church pastor. “We know how much they all look forward to the festival."

“However, nothing is more important to us than ensuring everyone’s safety and wellbeing. We believe this is the prudent thing to do. The people of St. Anthony’s cannot wait to welcome everyone again next May.”
