HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Two teenagers were arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a man at a Henrico apartment complex last month.
Officers were patrolling near Edgefield Court just before 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 when they heard several shots fired and people were screaming.
"I came outside and all my neighbors were outside and I was like, ‘did y'all hear that?’ and they said, ‘yea, did you hear it?’" said a witness who did not want his name used. "This is a really nice and quiet neighborhood, this kind of thing really doesn't happen around here,"
Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Joshua Mitrenga of Bumpass.
"Officers were able to communicate with the victim as he was rushed to the hospital," police said.
Breshon Evins, 18, was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
A 17-year-old suspect was charged with murder, according to Crime Insider sources.
"I expect they will elevate that charge so he's treated as an adult," CBS 6 legal expert Todd Stone said.
Mitrenga was found in a wooded area that backs up to the Crenshaw Apartments in Henrico County, the day of the shooting.
Even with arrests, the investigation is ongoing and police are asking the community to come forward with information.
Henrico Police asked if you know anything about the killing of Joshua Mitrenga, to contact them at 804-501-5000 or through Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
