School safety officer honored after performing Heimlich maneuver on choking student

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – A Spotsylvania County school safety officer is being hailed as a hero after saving a choking high school student earlier this month.

Warren Fountain was monitoring students when at lunch when he noticed a Chancellor High School student experiencing a medical emergency.

Officials say the student started to lose consciousness during the November 9 incident due to an obstruction in his airway.

Fountain rushed to the students aid and immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, ultimately dislodging the food from the student’s airwave.

The student was transported to the hospital and has since made a full recovery.

Monday, Fountain’s heroic actions was recognized by members of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office. He was presented with a “Life Saving” award.
