8 more locals schools denied accreditation

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Board of Education denied accreditation to eight more schools in Central Virginia.

Seven of the schools are in the city of Richmond and one is in Henrico County.

The Richmond schools are, Blackwell, Chimborazo, George Mason, Overby-Sheppard, Westover Hills, Thomas Jefferson High School and Woodville Elementary Schools.

Henrico’s Ratcliffe Elementary was also denied accreditation.

Only 14 of Richmond’s 44 schools were fully accredited this year, which is down from 17 last year.

Henrico had at least 48 accredited schools, and seven were denied.

“Despite the designation, each of the seven schools – Glen Lea, Montrose and Ratcliffe elementary schools, and Elko, Fairfield, John Rolfe and L. Douglas Wilder middle schools – can point to indicators of progress,” school officials said. Read more here.

Overall, 81% of Virginia schools are fully accredited.

The counties which have all schools fully accredited are Colonial Heights, Goochland, Hanover, New Kent, Powhatan, and Prince George.
