The child, whose name was not released, was traveling in a Toyota when the driver of the car lost control and crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

The Toyota collided with a Mazda minivan.

“The occupants of the Mazda minivan [a family from Cary, North Carolina] were treated and released from the hospital,” a Suffolk Police spokesperson said. “The mother of the toddler that was killed in the accident remains hospitalized in serious condition.”
