RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Animal Care and ,Control was hit with some bad news amid their fundraising campaign.
When RACC Director Christie Chipps Peters pulled up to work on Wednesday, she discovered that eight tires had been slashed on two animal control trucks.
Right now the organization is seeking donations after the city slashed $43,020 in funding from their budget.
The shelter’s goal is to raise $43,020 in one week; so far they've raised over $32,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

"This morning I was so excited to get to work and share with each of you that we have raised $32,400 so far for the animals in our care!!! I was so touched by the community support and love, that it helped restore my faith in humanity. Then I got out of my car and saw that someone had cut all 4 tires on two of the animal control trucks and my celebration turned to disgust. HONESTLY!! Who would do this?!? I'm trying to focus on the good, only $10,620 left to reach our goal! Focus on the good, focus on the good....please help us reach our goal in honor of all the good!
A police report has been filed, but no arrest made.
Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation says they will use the donated funds to support the medical care and treatment of RACC animals.
“We’re asking the community to once against stand behind Richmond Animal Care and Control through Richmond Animal Welfare foundation,” said Brittany Schaal, President of Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation. “We’ve been humbled by the support in the past and today we’ve raised thousands of dollars.”
Schaal said community donations means a lot for the animals at the shelter and animals they take in.
“This means that some of the animals might not get the opportunities that they otherwise would have been presented with,” she added.
According to RACC, they’re the only government shelter in Richmond that provides medical care to abused, abandoned, and stray animals.
